Matthew 6:16-21 Fasting And Real Heart Treasures.

Matthew 6:16-21 Fasting And Real Heart Treasures.

Jesus continues in what we might call the ‘spiritual disciplines’ by moving from prayer to fasting. The same principle applies, that we are to do all these things unto the Father, and not for mere appearances. For some people, their only reward is the approbation of their neighbours. Instead, we are to give no indication of our fasting, and again, when we fast in secret to the Father, he promises to reward us openly. Real treasures are those we lay up with the Father, which cannot be destroyed or stolen from us. The principle is a simple one to understand, but hard to achieve. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (v. 21).
