Mark 7:24-30 Humility-A Sign Of Faith.
The move into Tyre and Sidon was a move into predominantly Gentile territory, modern Lebanon (v. 24). The initial plan was to remain hidden, but he was found by “a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit” (v. 25a). Somehow this woman heard about Jesus and found out where he was, “and she came and fell at His feet” (v. 25b). She “was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth (a Syrian of Phoenicia) (NGSB 1575), who begged Jesus to heal her daughter (v. 26). Jesus’ plan was to bring the gospel of the kingdom to covenanted people first, and then from them to the world. This woman was an example of the gospel going beyond the covenanted nation. She didn’t mind being humbled if it meant that her daughter could be delivered (vv. 27-28). It is only those who know they are unworthy, and that deliverance is all of mercy and grace, who ultimately are healed (vv. 29-30).
