Mark 6:53-56 Word and Act Express One’s Faith.
When Jesus and the disciples again anchored to shore, this time at Gennesaret, the people recognized him and brought to them all who were sick, and even those who touched the hem of his garment were healed.* It is significant that here in Mark we read that there was this need to at least touch Jesus, like the woman who suffered from a constant flow of blood (Lk. 8:44). Jesus did heal people when they expressed their faith in asking Jesus for healing, but here faith was also expressed when people simply reached out to touch Jesus. Thus, both words and acts are expressions of faith, the instrument through which God acts in response to this faith. Sometimes it is just a simple act which gives expression to one’s faith.
* Gennesaret was “a village on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee (Luke 5:1).” (NGSB 1573)
