Mark 1:14-15 Jesus Begins His Public Ministry.

Mark 1:14-15 Jesus Begins His Public Ministry.

In the providence of God, Jesus began his public ministry of “the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of God” (v. 14), only after John was put in prison and thus an end came to his public ministry of preparing for the One who had come (Cf. Mt. 4:12). Jesus made the declaration of his work which he was now beginning. “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand” (v. 15a Cf. Mt. 3:2; Gal. 4:4). The time which the old covenant spokespersons looked ahead to, had now arrived. The Messianic kingdom was at hand, in Jesus’ generation. The key points of the message were repentance and faith or belief. There is a turning away from sin and self, and a turning to God in Christ (v. 15b Cf. Mt. 4:17).
