Habakkuk 2:5-20 “The knowledge of the glory of the LORD.”
Judgment will come upon all who oppress, when “the remnant of the people” plunder them (vv. 5-8), taking back what was stolen from them (vv. 9-11). Innocent bloodshed will be recompensed by “the LORD of hosts” (vv. 12-13), and this will ultimately lead to God’s glory. “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea” (v. 14). Those nations that took deliberate advantage of the innocent will suffer the very shame they sought to inflict (vv. 15-17), and part of that shame was the creation of and dependence on their idols (vv. 18-19). “But the LORD is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him” (v. 20).
