Psalm 128 Blessing!
Fearing the LORD brings blessing, but it also means walking in His ways (v. 1 Cf. 119:1). How one walks is inseparable from who one is. The good news is that the LORD’s blessings are every bit as concrete as our walking-it is not all in a future sweet by and by, divorced form our path in life. We shall be happy when eat the labour of our hands, and it will be well with us (v. 2 Cf. Is. 3:10). A married man will know his wife to be a fruitful vine in the very heart of their home, and children growing up around a shared table of blessing (v. 3 Cf. Dt. 4:40; Pss. 52:8; 127:3-5; 144:12; Ezek. 19:10). Of course, such a woman is also blessed by the fruitful labour of such a godly husband. This is the typical blessing upon the LORD’s covenant people-those who fear the LORD (v. 4). This life of covenant blessings flow to those individuals and families who are citizens of Zion and Jerusalem-the church of Jesus Christ (vv. 5-6 Cf. Ps. 134:3; Heb. 12:22-24). Shalom!
